Man Died in Parkville Apartment Fire, Officials Say
BREAKING: The deadly blaze near Parkville High School was caused by smoking, Baltimore County public safety officials report.

PARKVILLE, MD — A man died from an apartment fire Tuesday in Parkville, according to Baltimore County public safety officials.
David Meredith Smith, 56, of the 2600 block of East Putty Hill Avenue, was pronounced deceased after a blaze broke out in his bedroom around 4:07 p.m., officials reported. The apartment building where he lived was across the street from Parkville High School.
Firefighters found Smith, provided first aid and took him to MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased, according to authorities.

For the most part, officials said the fire was contained to the third-floor residence where Smith lived in a garden-style apartment complex.
Public safety officials ruled the blaze accidental, caused by careless smoking.
