Oak Crest Residents Receive Presidential Service Awards

Parkville, MD—Oak Crest, the Erickson Living retirement community, celebrated the generosity of its volunteers with a luncheon on March 27 to recognize those who answer the call to service.

246 residents earned Presidential Volunteer Service Awards for volunteering at least one hundred hours in 2014. They contributed to Baltimore-area programs such as the Maryland Food Bank, Our Daily Bread, Buddy Reading and the Lions Club.

All told, residents and friends of Oak Crest logged more than 96,000 hours of service on campus and beyond in 2014.

Special honors were presented to three Volunteers of the Year: Mary Snyder (Oak Crest Resident), Sissy Dickinson (Adult Volunteer) and Nancy Ayd (Student Volunteer).

Todd Sullivan, Director of Philanthropy, served as the keynote speaker. “Volunteers are the fabric of any community. I have seen their power to inspire and motivate others to do what they thought not possible or to shine light in someone’s darkest hour,” stated Mr. Sullivan. “Volunteers embody Oak Crest’s mission of sharing gifts to create communities that celebrate life.”

Elected officials in attendance included Congressman John Sarbanes and Baltimore County Councilman David Marks. Matt Weiss, legislative assistant, represented State Senator Kathy Klausmeier, and State Delegates Eric Bromwell, John Cluster and Christian Miele sent a House of Delegates citation.
