Yarn Bombing Transforms Oak Crest for America's 250th Anniversary

Oak Crest residents showcase their patriotism for America's 250th

Overnight, Oak Crest, a retirement community developed and managed by Erickson Senior Living in Parkville, MD, was transformed into a vibrant display of patriotism with a campus-wide "Yarn Bombing" for America's 250th Anniversary. This playful form of street art uses colorful knitted and crocheted pieces to adorn public spaces, bringing creativity and community spirit to life.

Led by project leaders Karen Armacost, Nancy Dorval, Margaret Hegmann, and Ann Miller, 28 residents and team members spent more than two months crafting decorations now showcased on 150 benches, trees, railings, and gathering spaces.

The display will remain through mid-July, before being carefully stored and repurposed for next year's celebration.
