Driver Denied Bail After Rosedale Car Chase: Police

Police said one of the two suspects involved in a police chase in Rosedale has been denied bail.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Police have identified the pair accused in a shoplifting case and car chase this week that ended with an officer-involved shooting. The police officer who fired the shots has been placed on administrative duty pending an investigation. He has also been involved in two other shootings in the past 12 years, officials say.

Around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3, authorities said they were dispatched to a Walgreens store in the 9600 block of Harford Road in Parkville, where a man had allegedly taken items from the store, then left in a blue Chevrolet Tahoe.

Police said an officer tried unsuccessfully to stop the Tahoe, which a woman was driving.

After a miles-long pursuit and two crashes, the officer fired 11 times at the SUV, according to WBAL. Citing charging documents, the station also reported that the items stolen from the Walgreens were four Red Bulls valued at $20.

Robyn Slack, 32, of the 4200 block of Kenwood Avenue, was charged with two counts of theft less than $100 and second-degree assault in connection with the July 3 incident. She was also cited for multiple traffic offenses, such as reckless driving and failure to control speed to avoid a collision, according to court records. Slack is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center without bail.

Micah Tucker, 38, of the 2700 block of Chesterfield Avenue, has been charged with two counts of theft less than $100 and was released on his own recognizance. He was allegedly shot and injured by the officer.

Police Officer First Class McCain of Precinct 8, who has been with the department for 17.5 years, was identified as the officer involved.

Officials said that Slack led police on a pursuit to Philadelphia Road near 65th Street, where the cruiser and Tahoe collided. A second collision followed on Pulaski Highway.

The officer ran from his car to the Tahoe, where Slack refused his order to get out of the vehicle, and the officer fired his weapon multiple times at the SUV.

Officer McCain is on paid leave during the investigation, according to WJZ. The investigation is ongoing.

Police said McCain was involved in a fatal shooting on Aug. 1, 2017, and in a nonfatal shooting in 2006. The deadly shooting in 2017 also began with a report of shoplifting; that one happened outside the Giant on Route 40 in Catonsville.
