After Dramatic Rescue in Rosedale, Hole Gets Patched
An 11-year-old boy fell into an old well and had to be rescued with ropes Sunday; Baltimore County public works made safety fix Monday.

ROSEDALE, MD – Public works crew patched a hole Monday morning in Rosedale after a boy fell more than 30 feet in and had to be rescued by a firefighter via rope, officials said.
The hole appeared to be on the property of McDonald's in the 6300 block of Kenwood Avenue, according to Baltimore County public safety officials.
When two 11-year-old boys were playing in the area Sunday night, the 36-inch hole was covered with mulch and landscaping fabric, which gave way and they both fell in, officials reported.

One of the boys was able to get out before falling in completely, and he called a parent who was inside the McDonald's, while his friend was in the hole, officials said. Emergency personnel were dispatched to the area at 6:39 p.m. on Sunday, according to Baltimore County public safety officials.

Crews specializing in rescues in confined spaces were called in from Pikesville and Bowleys Quarters, in addition to the tactical team out of the Texas station and personnel from other firehouses, authorities reported.
Members of the Texas station used their ladder truck and a rope system to lower a firefighter into the hole and put a harness on the boy so crews could lift the boy and the firefighter to safety, according to the report.
By 7:15 p.m. the boy had been rescued and was out of the hole, officials said. He and his friend were both taken to the Johns Hopkins Children's Center with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, according to officials.
On Monday, county officials said that they had worked to address the danger, saying in a statement: "The hole appears to be an old well and is the property of McDonald's. This morning, Baltimore County Public Works crews covered it with a steel plate for safety."
