Baltimore County Public Library Takes National Library Week Celebration on the Road

How has the library changed your life? Answer for the chance to win $100.

Sometimes people don't have to lift a finger to go to the library—for 60,000 children and seniors, the Baltimore County Public Library comes to them.

The library system has four bookmobiles, including three it recently acquired to replace models more than a decade old.

Through monthly visits to special needs schools, nearly 200 licensed day care providers, 50 senior centers and retirement homes, the bookmobiles—known as "Read Rover" by youths and "Library on the Go" to seniors—help the library fulfill its mission of fostering a lifelong love of reading.

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz visited the Read Rover in Essex on April 16 for National Bookmobile Day, one part of National Library Week, an observance sponsored by the American Library Association from April 13 to 19.

This year’s National Library Week theme is "Lives Change @ Your Library."
