Historic Gates Disappear from Battle Acre Park in Baltimore County

Wrought-iron gates that police say are historic have disappeared from a Baltimore County park.

Two gates at the entrance to Battle Acre Park in Dundalk were reported missing Tuesday, according to a report from the Baltimore County Police Department.

A contractor working at the park, located in the 3100 block of North Point Road, saw that the gates had vanished on June 30, police said.

Battle Acre Park was dedicated in 1839 to the soldiers who fought at the Battle of North Point during the War of 1812, according to Baltimore County Tourism. During the battle on Sept. 12, 1814, soldiers stalled British militia who landed at North Point from getting to Baltimore.

Baltimore County is planning a commemoration of the 200-year anniversary of the battle this fall, Patch previously reported, and is making improvements in the area like installing a mural.

The project manager working on the park's restoration said the last time he saw the wrought-iron gates at the park's entrance was Wednesday, June 25, according to police.

Officials interviewed residents living near Battle Acre Park on Tuesday, and none said they saw anyone take the gates, according to police.

Police also gave area scrap metal businesses a photograph of the gates and asked for notification if the gates appear there, according to the report.
