Honeygo Elementary School Wraps Up First Week: PHOTOS

PERRY HALL, MD — This week marked the first for Baltimore County Public Schools students. And it was extra special for students at Honeygo Elementary, the brand-new school that just opened off Joppa Road.

The $49 million school near the intersection of Joppa Road and Honeygo Boulevard was designed to help ease overcrowding at schools around Perry Hall.

Honeygo was one of three new elementary schools to open Tuesday in the jurisdiction, according to Baltimore County Public Schools.

Honeygo Principal Charlene Behnke joined staffers and Interim Superintendent Verletta White to welcome the children on the first day of classes on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Baltimore County Public Schools officials shared some snapshots from the day, from the moment kids arrived to engaging moments in the classroom.

Here is the vision for the school, which was created in collaboration with the community: "Honeygo Elementary School is committed to engaging, educating, and empowering all learners in a safe environment that is responsive, innovative, and creative. Culture and diversity are recognized, valued, and respected to nurture an uplifting atmosphere."

This is the school's mission: "We foster a community with high expectations in which students thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. We grow to our full potential through thoughtful interactions, intentional instruction, meaningful collaboration, and infusion of the arts. We create partnerships with all stakeholders to cultivate a community full of opportunities as well as successful and kind citizens."

Baltimore County Executive Don Mohler and other local officials made the rounds at Honeygo and the new buildings at Victory Villa Elementary and Lansdowne Elementary, which were replaced this year.

Honeygo Elementary School is located at 4816 Joppa Road.
