Icy Ramp Reported in White Marsh Area

A salt truck was called to the scene of a crash in White Marsh Monday morning, emergency officials say.

WHITE MARSH, MD — A crash that was reportedly weather-related slowed traffic in White Marsh Monday morning.

At approximately 5 a.m., the ramp from MD 43 west was closed at Route 40 because of a crash involving multiple vehicles, according to the White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company.

The ramp was icy and a salt truck was requested, the fire company reported.

The deceleration lane on westbound Route 40 and the ramp from MD 43 were closed until approximately 6:45 a.m., according to state transportation officials. By 7 a.m., all lanes were reportedly open in the area.

Drivers should increase their following distance in icy conditions, which are prone to developing on overpasses, bridges and shady areas when temperatures drop.

Temperatures were below freezing in the Perry Hall area Monday morning—approximately 28 degrees before 7 a.m.—with a high in the upper 30s Monday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

It’s not expected to get warm anytime soon, with the weather service forecasting a 40 percent chance of snow showers Tuesday afternoon and temps in the 30s and 40s for the week.

AAA Mid-Atlantic recommends increasing following distance when conditions may be icy and if a vehicle hits a slick spot and starts to skid, the driver should avoid slamming on the brakes and instead steer the vehicle in the direction the driver wants it to go.
