Locals Pour Into Restaurants for Super Bowl XLV
Gunpowder Lodge was one of many local venues to host a Super Bowl party.
From Manhattan Grill to the Tilted Kilt to their own living rooms—area residents had to enjoy watching the Green Bay Packers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday evening.
At the Gunpowder Lodge restaurant, tucked inside of the Gunpowder Falls State Park, dozens of local residents packed the house, eating, drinking and watching the tense game.
“I have really been enjoying the game, and am glad to see that the Green Bay Packers are winning so far [mid-way through the second quarter], and I hope they win in the end," said John O’Conner of Abingdon, who attended with his wife Katherine. He said that he'd passed by the riverside tavern for years but never walked inside—until Sunday night.

This was the establishment's first Super Bowl party, said co-owners Dave Steele and Danny Santoro. “When we first had the idea, we weren’t sure how it would turn out, but so far it’s been great," said Santoro.
They served beef and ham, Italian sausage and peppers, barbecued ribs and chicken, chicken wings and side dishes. Drinks ranged from twelve different draft beers, to just about any other mixed drink imaginable.

Kami White of Fallston, first came to Gunpowder Lodge last weekend for dinner. “It was the first place that I thought of when deciding where to go to watch the Super Bowl,” said White, adding that friendly staffers and great food were the restuarant's main attraction.
Whether folks were cheese-heads or Steelers towel-wavers, area restaurants welcomed any and all spectators of Super Bowl XLV.
