Dundalk Man Sentenced Over Counterfeit Scheme

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Jason Christian Evans, a 51-year-old Dundalk man, was sentenced to nearly three years in prison for obtaining counterfeit currency that he used at several grocery stores.

Evans' sentencing also includes three years of supervised release once he is out of prison.

Details released by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland revealed Evans was already on supervised release when he traveled to Pennsylvania and used counterfeit bills to buy goods at at least five different Giant Food and Weis Market stores.

The incident, which occurred after Evans served a sentence for bank fraud, took place Jan. 30, 2025. Evans was not arrested until April 17, according to officials.

A search of Evans' Dundalk home saw authorities seize two cellphones, five computers, and counterfeit detecting pens. He later admitted to investigators that he used his laptop to buy the counterfeited currency from the dark web.

An analysis of the laptop returned files that provided an explainer on how to properly age counterfeit currency and how to bypass pen detection.
