Marks: No Plans to Widen Chapel Road

Baltimore County Councilman David Marks announced that county officials have no plans to widen Chapel Road in Perry Hall. There are, however, plans to resurface the stretch.

Marks released the following statement to constituents by email Thursday morning:

Over the past eight months, I have tried to take a fresh look at future plans for roads in the Honeygo area, the last area of Perry Hall that will experience significant growth. Honeygo is that area of northeastern Perry Hall bordered by Chapel Road on the west, Belair Road on the north, Philadelphia Road and Interstate-95 on the east, and Honeygo Run on the south.  

Earlier this spring, I worked with the Department of Public Works to shrink the future footprint for Forge Road by 20 feet. When the Forge Road project commences, property owners will be able to keep more of their land, and the county will save money that would have been spent on acquiring additional property.   

Chapel Road is another major route in this region. Chapel Road still has a semi-rural feel, and the topography of the land makes it difficult to widen without major disruptions to the homes along this route.

I have obtained a commitment from the county that there are no plans to widen Chapel Road. Most importantly, the county will not require developers of any new projects to widen the entrances to their projects beyond the current width of Chapel Road. This is important because there is at least one pending development that would have an entrance onto Chapel Road.  

At the same time, the county has assured me that Chapel Road remains in the longtime resurfacing program. The county will require developers to donate right-of-way so there is flexibility to correct drainage and make improvements in the future.
