May 1: Rabies Vaccination, Pet Licensing Available in Perry Hall

will hold one of 10 outdoor rabies vaccination clinics this spring, Baltimore County officials announced. 

Between May 1 and June 11, vaccinations will be available at the park for $7 per animal. County law requires that all domestic animals be protected against rabies with up-to-date vaccinations. 

Animals must be at least 12 weeks old, they must be controlled on leases or inside of carriers and aggressive dogs must be muzzled, according to a county news release, which added that cats may be carried in a pillow case. 

Officials encourage pet-owners to notify their veterinarian if a pet is scratched or bitten by a wild animal. Law enforcement and county health department workers should also be notified, according to the release. 

Pet licensing will also be available by mail, at the and other locations throughout the county, starting on May 1. County law requires that pet licenses for dogs and cats, 4 months old and older, be renewed annually. Current 2011 licenses expire on July 31, according to another county news release.

Current license holders will automatically receive renewal applications by mail, officials said. Proof of each pet's up-to-date rabies vaccination and spay or neuter status is required. A half-price discount is available to owners of spayed or neutered dogs and cats. Additional discounts are available to pet owners age 60 and over.
