New Left Lane Added on I-95 Near Cowenton Avenue

The addition is part of the Interstate 95 Express Toll Lanes project, transportation officials say.

Those heading north of Perry Hall on Interstate 95 may notice the highway looks a bit different Thursday.

Starting Dec. 4, the Maryland Transportation Authority reports it is opening a left lane in the area of Cowenton Avenue on I-95 north.

In addition, the right lane will end approximately one mile north of Cowenton Avenue on I-95 north, according to the authority.

The changes are related to the new express toll lanes—a total of four separate lanes where travelers can pay extra to avoid traffic along an 8-mile stretch between I-895 and MD 43.

The toll lanes are opening on Saturday, Dec. 6, and the new traffic pattern will enable drivers to transition back onto the regular part of I-95.

Likewise, a left lane near Moravia Road is opening on southbound I-95 where express toll lane travelers will exit, and a right lane on I-895 south will end 0.25-mile south, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.

Transportation officials will be out uncovering signs for the I-95 Express Toll Lanes on Thursday, the authority reported.

Drivers may test the I-95 Express Toll Lanes out for free between Dec. 6 and Dec. 12. Toll rates will apply starting at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13.
