New Left Turn Signals at Silver Spring and Honeygo Coming This Summer

Plans were first announced for the turn signals in December 2010.

New left turn signals at the intersection of Honeygo Boulevard and Silver Spring Road will likely be completed by the summer, announced County Councilman David Marks Wednesday afternoon.

"The installation of these left-turn signals will require the designation of left-turn lanes on both approaches, some extensive pavement marking and possibly some minor widening of the westbound travel lane on the eastern leg of the intersection," Marks said.

State Sen. Kathy Klausmeier of Legislative District 8 .

"I am pleased that Baltimore County has decided to install the left turn signals. We received several calls and emails and this was a matter of great importance to the people who contacted me," said Klausmeier in an official statement.

She forwarded constituent concerns to Darrell Wiles of the Baltimore County Bureau of Traffic Engineering and Planning, whose staff conducted a traffic study. His staff found that an increased number of cars making left turns justified the installation of signals, she said.

Shortly after Klausmeier's announcement, Greg Carski, a supervisor at the bureau, said that he expected the turn signals to be installed by spring 2011.

Marks' announcement offered a wider timeframe. "These improvements will be implemented by the summer," he said.
