Officer Amy Caprio Awarded Posthumous Departmental Honor
The officer killed in the line of duty in Perry Hall in May was given an award by the Baltimore County Police Department.

PERRY HALL, MD — Officer Amy Caprio was given the Officer of the Month Award for May, police reported this week. The honor is given to an officer within the Parkville precinct who demonstrates outstanding work.
Caprio, 29, had been responding to a call about a suspicious condition on Linwen Way at 1:58 p.m. on May 21 when she died in the line of duty. As she responded to the call, authorities said she learned a black Jeep was the suspect vehicle and four suspects may be in the area committing a burglary.
Police said Caprio recognized a possibly dangerous situation and called for clearance of radio transmissions as she approached the stolen Jeep. When the driver refused to get out after she ordered him to do so, police said Dawnta Anthony Harris, 16, instead drove toward Caprio, who was standing in front of her patrol car.

Before Harris hit her, authorities said Caprio fired a single round into the windshield of the Jeep.
Police said that Caprio's work led to charges in her own murder and helped investigators close six burglaries:
