UPDATE: Perry Hall Superfresh Replaced 'Optimistically, by Summer'

Kimco Realty is still working to secure a lease for a new grocery store to replace the at , according to a company official.

"We're a large corporation and we're trying to bring in a regional grocer. It just takes time," said Gregory Reed, assistant director of Kimco Realty. "Optimistically, by summer we'll have a new lease."

The vacant Superfresh retail space is about 65,000 square feet. During a in October 2011, Reed said the location would likely be filled by a grocery store, but probably not a , , or .

Forty percent of the shopping center's storefronts have been since Superfresh . Out of 40 possible spaces of varying square-footage, the center currently holds only 24 active businesses. They include anchor tenants , , and the , according to .

With the of Salvo Auto Parts and Shi Yogurt, , only 11 vacant storefronts will remain. This will reduce the total vacancies from 40 percent of the center to about 28 percent.

County Councilman David Marks has led a campaign to revitalize the since last year. A , offering governmental assistance to businesses at the center, was proposed by Marks and by the County Council in May 2011.

Reed said he has worked to inform current tenants and prospective ones about the commercial revitalization district.

"We've got a package together that we use as a marketing tool," he said, adding that he regularly meets with Marks about the center's status.
