Perry Hall Superfresh to Close July 6

Less than a month remains until the grocery store's closure on July 6, said Lee Freeman, the store's front-end manager.

In the meantime, the store will hold a liquidation sale. A minimum 10 percent discount will be applied to all items, Freeman said. Seafood will sell for 30 percent off and cosmetics will be discounted to 20 percent off.

The store will also cut its hours, opening at 9 a.m. and closing at 9 p.m.

Freeman said he was unable to comment on the fate of the store's workers after the closure.

Superfresh's parent company, A&P, in April that it planned to sell 25 Superfresh stores in Maryland, Delaware and Washington, D.C. In mid-May, the grocery store chain state officials that the closures would eliminate about 1,500 jobs.

The ShopRite grocery chain agreed to 10 Superfresh stores that were slated for closure, including those in Parkville, Lutherville and North Baltimore. However, no buyer has emerged for the Perry Hall store.

The Perry Hall location, at the corner of Belair and Ebenezer roads, is about 10 years old, said Greg Cullison, assistant store manager. It abuts the , which has many empty storefronts.

Last month, the Baltimore County Council a resolution to form a Perry Hall , including the Perry Hall Square Shopping Center and the Superfresh. 

The resolution, proposed by Councilman David Marks, will allow area businesses to become eligible for low-interest loans, streetscape enhancements, tax credits, expert advice, regulatory assistance and possibly even grants for district-wide improvements.
