PERRY HALL, MD — Police said a Perry Hall teen was killed on Interstate 95 Wednesday night near the Joppa Road overpass. He was hit by oncoming traffic after getting out of his car, which had crashed into a tree, according to officials.

Aaron Reddy, 18, of Perry Hall, was pronounced deceased at the scene on I-95 south near mile marker 68.5, police said.

Officials said they were called to the area at 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, for a pedestrian who had been hit. They found a black Honda Civic in the woods parallel to the interstate and Reddy lying unresponsive in the southbound part of the highway.

Investigators determined that Reddy left his home in Perry Hall, drove east on Joppa Road and was approaching I-95 when he went about 400 yards off the roadway and hit a tree. It was not clear why his vehicle went off the road, according to authorities.

After crashing into the tree, police said the car came to rest against a chain-link fence.

Police believe that Reddy, who had been alone in the vehicle, got out and walked into the road.

"Witnesses told police they observed Reddy lying on the roadway before he was struck by oncoming traffic," according to a statement from Maryland State Police.

His body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for autopsy.

Troopers from the JFK Barrack, investigators from the Criminal Enforcement Division North and the Maryland State Police CRASH Team responded to the scene, where they interviewed witnesses.

The Maryland State Highway Administration set up detours because I-95 south was closed while authorities processed the crash scene. All lanes were shut down on I-95 south before the exit for White Marsh Boulevard from about 10:55 p.m. on Wednesday to 3 a.m. on Thursday.
