For the past four years, Lady and Pearl, a pair of pit bulls rescued by the , have spent much of their time behind the jewelry store's back counter.

Store owner said the dogs are popular among customers and fellow shopping center tenants.
"A lot of people come in just to see the dogs," he said.

Thobe said the dogs are gentle and safe, despite the breed's somewhat negative reputation. "I would never put my customers in danger," he said.
While their job responsibilities mainly include napping near the store's workshop area and eating treats, Thobe's wife, Sandy, said they're valuable assets to the business.
"They're our best workers," she said with a laugh.
