Police Lift Shelter-in-Place Advisory in Parkville

Police are questioning a Parkville man in connection with an incident that had a neighborhood on lockdown Tuesday afternoon.

Baltimore County public safety officials advised citizens in a section of Parkville Tuesday to stay inside for several hours as authorities investigated a tip.

At 12:19 p.m. on Tuesday, officers were called to investigate a potentially hazardous device in the 3100 block of Texas Avenue, police said. No such device was found, police later reported.

A concerned citizen had notified police of a possible threat at a home in that area, with a tip including specific details about potentially hazardous devices, according to a report from Baltimore County police.

Officials created a “safe zone” around the home, as it was unclear what may be inside, the report said.

The bomb squad, hazmat team, police officers and fire department personnel responded to the scene, where streets were blocked off, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Hazardous devices personnel went through the residence in search of any danger, police reported, noting that nobody was home. Authorities found a resident of the house during a canvass of the neighborhood, according to the report.

As a precaution, authorities asked people to shelter in place if they were located between Harford Road and Wilson Avenue—on Parktowne Road, Texas Avenue or Acton Road—to ensure community safety during the investigation. Students who were returning to the Texas Avenue area by bus were diverted to Parkville Middle School, officials reported.

Police lifted the shelter-in-place advisory at approximately 3:15 p.m., although officers remained at the scene to continue investigating, according to officials.

No injuries were reported, police said.

Police said they were continuing to question the resident late Tuesday afternoon.
