UPDATE: Safeway Power Restored After 6-Hour Outage

The underground outage affected 19 commercial customers.

UPDATE (6 p.m.)—After a six-hour outage, power was restored at the after 5 p.m. Friday, a store manager confirmed.

The  on Belair Road in Perry Hall lost electricity at about 11:15 a.m. Friday, a store manager said.

Generators allowed the store to remain open but only for the sale of dry goods. 

Managers hope to keep most of the store's frozen and refrigerated items cool by keeping the doors to those areas closed, a manager said. Other perishable items have been transported to a refrigerated storage trailer.

The store was expected to regain electricity at 4 p.m. but remained without power after 4:30 p.m. 

Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. workers are investigating the cause of the underground outage, which has affected 19 commercial customers, said Rachael Lighty, a BGE spokesperson. 

Repairs will begin as soon as workers find the cause, Lighty said.
