Sewer Repairs, Mud, Construction Continue Along Forge Road

A portion of Forge Road in Perry Hall will be closed June 22-July 8.

There is mud on the driveway of Laura Butt's home—the home she has lived in for the past 62 years.

During heavy rains, soil sometimes washes down from the construction site of the planned Forge Meadows housing development, across the street from Butt's home.

She said she tries not to complain. "They've been pretty decent about it," she said, adding that workers usually clean up after themselves.

The new development has required the expansion of sewer lines between Cross and Perry Farms roads. These were first installed by developers in February, said David Fidler, a Baltimore County Department of Public Works spokesman, but the lines recently began to sink.

As workers repair the sewer lines, Forge Road will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. between June 22 and July 8, according to a notice sent by County Councilman David Marks.

Local residents may continue to use the road during repairs. All other drivers must use a detour route from Cross Road to Gunpowder Farm Road to Forge Acre Drive to Perry Farms Drive.

Butt said she's gotten used to living in a construction zone.

"New houses are in back of us, along side us and in front of us," she said. "I'm not opposed to progress, but I think there are already too many houses in Perry Hall."
