50 Shades of Grey Inspires White Marsh Outing

A group of friends dressed 'Grey style' to celebrate the opening of blockbuster romance.

For the second weekend in a row, 50 Shades of Grey topped sales at box offices nationwide, according to USA Today.

When the film was released the weekend of Valentine’s Day, a group of women in Perry Hall went to see it together, and they’re already planning to see the next two installments in similar fashion—that is, dressed in “Grey” attire.

“We agreed to wear white shirts with grey ties,” Stefanie Funk Kurek told Perry Hall Patch.

“We are a very close group of girls. We do a lot together, our husbands are good friends and our children are friends and play sports together,” Kurek said.

Once she read the series of books by E.L. James last summer, “it was only a matter of time and all the girls eventually read the books,” Kurek said. There are three books in the 50 Shades trilogy, for a total of 1,625 pages.

Everyone loved the books, so Kurek’s sister Mary Ann ordered tickets ahead of time for a ”Girls Day Out” on opening weekend.

“The 10 of us had lunch at Della Rosa’s on the Avenue,” Kurek said, then saw the 3 p.m. showing after a half-hour wait at the theater.

The Reaction: “We loved the movie,” Kurek said. “We all agreed that Dakota Johnson is the PERFECT Anastasia Steele. We liked Jamie Dornan, he had to grow on us a little, but he was just as good.”

The Next Installment: “We all cannot wait for part two,” Kurek said. “We will again, go as a group, dressed Grey style.”

And the girls day out ended in a romantic twist. “After the movie, we met the husbands and kids and 27 of us had a huge Valentine’s dinner together,” Kurek said. “Why? Cause that’s how we roll!”
