Signal Outage at Honeygo and MD-43 Disrupts Rush Hour Traffic

Police directed traffic while workers repaired a shorted signal wire.

A signal at Honeygo Boulevard and Maryland Route 43 experienced an outage early this morning, causing confusion and delays during rush hour traffic, State Highway Administration officials confirmed.

Workers repaired the outage by 8:30 a.m., said David Buck, an SHA spokesman.

At about 5 a.m., drivers reported that the signal facing Honeygo Boulevard was flashing red, while the signal facing MD-43 was flashing yellow. Police were called to the scene to direct traffic.

The intersection provides access to Interstate 95 and Interstate 695, as well as several commercial properties, ranging from Glenn L. Martin Airport to White Marsh Mall.

"It's probably the worst time of day for this to happen," Buck said.

SHA contractors arrived at the intersection by 6 a.m. and discovered that the outage was caused by a shorted wire. It took two and a half hours to repair.

"I can't think of too many other times that this has happened," Buck said, calling the situation "very unusual."
