White Marsh GM Plant Moves Toward Solar Power
A solar charging station will reduce the plant's carbon footprint.

TimberRock Energy Solutions and Standard Solar will be partnering to install a solar charging station at the White Marsh Plant, the two energy companies announced Wednesday in a press release.
The addition of the solar charging station is expected will help reduce the General Motors plant's dependence on fossil-fuel energy, the release pointed out.

TimberRock Energy Solutions and Standard Solar have partnered "to design, build and provide a leasing program for a solar (electric vehicle) charging station" on the , a press release stated.
The system is expected to produce 12,500 kilowatt-hours per year, "enough energy to fully power a fleet of six Chevy Volts," the release stated. It is anticipated to reduce the plant's footprint by about 12 tons of carbon dioxide per year.

The plant broke ground on an in May. Rob Threlkeld, a manager over GM's "green initiatives," called the solar charging station "a natural complement to these other investments."
