The Shoshana S. Cardin School Welcomes Four New Instructors

BALTIMORE – August 15, 2012 – Baltimore’s only independent Jewish High School, the Shoshana S. Cardin School, recently announced the addition of four new instructors to the faculty. Debora Benecase Eggert, Sara Priebe, Bryan Johnson, and Benton Komins will join the school’s talented group of instructors for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Ms. Debora Benecase Eggert
Ms. Eggert brings over twenty years of experience to the Cardin School as an Instructor of Spanish. With a Bachelor of Arts degree in Modern Languages and Literature from the University of UNIARAXA in Brazil, she is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Education. Previously Ms. Eggert taught Spanish and Portuguese to English speakers, and English to Spanish and Portuguese speakers.

Ms. Sara Priebe
Ms. Priebe will join the Cardin School this fall as the new Instructor of Latin. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies with a minor in Music, as well as a Master of Art in Teaching from the College of Notre Dame in Maryland. Ms. Priebe is a member of several prestigious organizations including Phi Sigma Iota and the National Classics Honorary Society.

Mr. Bryan Johnson
Mr. Johnson will assume the position of Instructor of Upper Level Mathematics and Physics for the new school year. Previously a Ph.D. candidate and graduate teaching assistant at Michigan State University, Mr. Johnson is a member of the American Mathematical Society and has published several articles in the Journal of Discrete Mathematics.

Mr. Benton Komins
Dr. Benton Komins, J.D., Ph.D. will join the Cardin School as an Instructor of Humanities, specifically English Literature and Composition/History. Dr. Komins graduated summe cum laude from Columbia University, received his law degree from Tulane University, and earned his Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Harvard University. He has experience teaching American Culture, Literature, and Civilizations in Turkey, South Africa, and Oregon, and has worked with students displaced by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

“We are excited for these four new instructors to bring their varied backgrounds to our already experienced and diverse faculty,” said David Prashker, Head of School, who also joined the Cardin School for the 2012-2013 academic year. In addition to announcing these four new instructors, the Cardin School recently named Leslie Smith Rosen the school’s new Principal and Rabbi Yaakov Chaitovsky as the school’s new rabbi.

The Cardin School will showcase their new leadership and faculty at two fall Open House events for prospective students on Sept. 12 and Nov. 4. For more information, contact the admissions office at (410) 585-1400.
