Charges Filed Over Pikesville Shooting That Left 3 Injured

The gunman tied to Sunday's Pikesville shooting is facing multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Shaka Kamara, a 38-year-old man, is facing a dozen charges in connection to the Pikesville shooting that took place over the weekend.

Court records show Kamara is facing three counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and one count of armed robbery, among other firearm-related offenses.

The charges were announced a day after Baltimore County Police identified Officer P. Catalfamo as the law enforcement official who was injured in the shooting.

At the scene, Catalfamo and two other officers located Kamara, who ran away on foot after being confronted. After Catalfamo was shot by Kamara, a gunfire exchange broke out between another officer and the 38-year-old.

Police said that while Kamara was attempting to flee the scene a second time, he stole another firearm from a man and a woman he ran into on the trail.

Authorities were initially called to the Pikesville area just before 9 a.m., but by about 9:15 a.m., a fourth officer — unaware of the robbery that had just taken place — arrived at the scene.

Within moments of the officer's arrival, police said Kamara began shooting again at authorities. It was during the second round of gunfire exchange that Kamara and one of the hikers were shot.

In total, gunshot injuries were suffered by Catalfamo, Kamara and the man whose gun had been stolen. Both Catalfamo and Kamara are said to be in stable condition, with the hiker recovering from his non-life-threatening injury.

Kamara remains held without bond. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for July 1.
