BITES NEARBY: Tov Pizza

Tov offers delicious kosher food in a family-friendly environment just south of Pikesville on Reisterstown Road.

Things were hopping Wednesday when I went to .

No doubt it was because Passover had just ended and people had a craving.

When the craving strikes, Tov is a good place to go—whether you keep kosher or not.

Since 1984, Tov has been slicing up kosher pizza in Baltimore. It bills itself as “The Best Kosher Pizza in Baltimore," and, while I’ve not comparison-shopped, I might agree.

I was there at just about 6 p.m. and zigzagged through a maze of children out front and inside the restaurant. There were lots of families coming in to eat and to pick up dinner to take home.

The atmosphere: The dining room is pretty nondescript, but it's clean. I am glad I chose to eat in, because when I got my meal my mouth was watering. I’m not sure I could have restrained myself while smelling that deliciousness all the way home.

The menu: The options are plentiful and go way beyond pizza. There are knishes, wraps, subs, sandwiches, salads and entrees, both Italian and Middle Eastern, among others. There are fountain sodas and a case of bottled drinks to choose from.

Service: I was greeted as soon as I came in, my order was taken quickly by a friendly staff person, and my wait was short. I kept it simple and ordered a slice with mushrooms—but you can get any topping you want on a single slice—and a side salad. For this meal, I paid $7.43.

Overall Impression: I’m eager to go back, because although the salad was standard fare—iceberg, tomato, cucumber, peppers, pickles and croutons—the pizza was delicious.

I am a fan of thin, crispy crust, and that’s what Tov delivers. It's flaky with just the right crunch.

Tip: Take a look at the website before you go. You can peruse the menu, and they also post specials. They have a “coupons” page, so you might even get a deal! As they are kosher, they close for the Sabbath at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. They re-open Saturday evening an hour after the Sabbath is over until 12:30 a.m.
