With the rise in heroin use and overdoses, Hope House is looking to create awareness that this is not a new issue and it is something Hope House has been dealing for a long time. According to Peter D’Souza, Executive Director of Hope House treatment Centers, “there is an increase in overdoses due to the fact that heroin in being laced with Fentanyl - a very powerful, potent and dangerous synthetic opiate analgesic.” As stated on the addicted.org website, the stats show that over 60,000 treatment admissions were seen in Maryland last year and just under 18,000 were heroin admissions. That breaks down to a little under 1/3 of the treatment admissions in Maryland was for heroin addiction and of those the age range was 30-40 years old.
