Patterson Mill Blanks Pikesville In Regionals

11-run first helps Harford school to 21-0 rout of Panthers on Thursday.

The same problems that have bothered Pikesville High School's varsity softball team all year caused the Panthers trouble again in Thursday's Class 1A North Region playoffs.

The Panthers gave up 11 first-inning runs to visiting Patterson Mill to give the Huskies a great start, and they rolled to a 21-0 five-inning victory that ended Pikesville's season.

In that first inning, a combination of walks, errors and hits gave the Harford County school the 11 runs and the big lead. That's why Patterson Mill took command early in this first-round game. The errors have been a season-long problem.

"This is what we've been plagued with all year," said Pikesville coach Mike Behrens.

Taylor Hentzman and Rachel Hoffman got the two Pikesville hits. Hentzman was a freshman who came up from JV midway through the season and played well. Pikesville finished with a 4-14 record.
