COMEDY COMES
TO BENNY’S BAR & GRILL
Benny’s
is serving up a lot of laughs along with his breakfast, lunch and dinner menu
these days. Owner, Bennny Fischer, has been looking for the answer to late
night entertainment in his 6000 square foot Potomac Maryland restaurant that seats 240 people
since it opend last May. “ I have
instituded live Jazz, Rock & Roll and Country music along with Triva events
since we opened, but I was unable to generate a late night crowd,” says Fischer.
Last month things got a little funny.
Benny started bringing in professional comedians for shows on Friday
& Saturdays nights. From the start, I knew it was a winner”, says
Fischer.
The
restaurant usually empties out on the weekends around 10:00pm, but now, it’s
standing room only. Benny put the word out to the comic community for the
Friday Night Open Mic and comedians as far away as Richmond and Philipdelphia have
come to the restaurant to perform. The Saturday night show is limited to only a few comedians that have had
some national exposure.

We
are getting the up & commers that will be the next generation of stars,
asserts Fischer. Fischer remembers
seeing Jerry Sinefeld at Garvins on Connecticut Ave 35 years ago when Sinefeld
was an unknown and Fischer belives that
one or more of the comedians performing at his restaurant could be the next big
thing. Ya never know!, says
Fischer. Fischer is installing cameras
to tape the shows and plans to post them on his restaurant website and on
Youtube . If the crowds keep coming, Benny will add shows during the week.
Along
with the comedians, Benny”s Bar & Grill is something to see and enjoy. The
menu is as impressive as the 1940’s retro look of the restaurant. Even more
impressive are the large portion sizes Benny's is serving. “Go big or go home,” says Fischer . Big portions
of high quality food rule the day at Benny’s and Benny’s has it all: burgers, steaks, chicken, ribs, seafood, rawbar,
salads, deli sandwiches fresh lobster and great desserts and everything is made
from scratch in the restaurant.

a local sports legend, restauratuer and humanitarian in Washington D.C. area
from the 1920’s through the 1950’s. The magnificent 1940’s looking restaurant
decor makes you feel like you stepped back in time with crisp artsy photographs
of movie starlets hung nealtly on the walls, combined with an elaborate
authentic silver tin ceiling accented with dark walnut comfortable booths,
table & chairs.
Owner
Benson Fischer, is a 3rd generation resident of the Washington D.C. area amd has

the Hot Shopps’s Hot Fudge Cake, the Might Mo and Peter Pan’s Hush Puppies for example.
