Former Cabin John Park Volunteer Fire Chief Dies

James P. Seavey retired from the Washington D.C. Fire Department in 2016 after serving the city for 30 years.

POTOMAC, MD — A two year fight against Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma came to an end Tuesday as former fire chief James P. Seavey died surrounded by his loved ones.

Cabin John Park Volunteer Fire Department announced Seavey's death Tuesday on Twitter, writing that the department is "deeply saddened" by the loss.

Before coming to serve as a volunteer with the Cabin John Park department, Seavey served as a Washington D.C. firefighter and a volunteer with the Glen Echo department.

He was also a member of D.C. Fire Department's Emerald Society Pipes & Drums, where he was appointed Honor Guard Sergeant. The band shared several photos of Seavey in memorial.

D.C. Fire and EMS also shared a post in memory of Seavey, who was first appointed to the department on May 27, 1986. When he joined, the department said, he was assigned to truck one. He retired from the department nearly 30 years later after serving as captain of truck 11.

Information regarding Seavey's funeral and interment was not immediately available.
