Police Report School Vandalism, Thefts from Vehicles

Two school burglaries and six thefts from vehicles among recent reported area crimes.

School break-ins and thefts from vehicles are among Potomac-area crimes reported for middle July, according to recently-released information from Montgomery County Police.

Two schools were broken into, with one vandalized, during the same overnight period July 13-14. Thefts from six vehicles and one attempted residential burglary were also reported in the police crime summary, covering the period from July 11 to July 19.

To prevent burglaries, police advise making sure doors windows are doors are locked when no one is home, as well as alerting neighbors when out of town. Using timers on lights, radios and televisions will help to create the impression that someone is home. Remember also to confirm cars door are locked and valuable items removed.

Burglaries and vandalism:

  • Another school break-in occurred on the same dates of July 13-14 at Beverly Farms Elementary, 8501 Postoak Road, betweeen 3:30 p.m. and 6:45 a.m. Entry was forced entry but nothing taken.
  • A residential burglary was attempted in the 13500 block of Deerbrook Drive, July 19 at 11:10 a.m. Entry was forced; nothing taken.

Thefts from vehicles:

  • Six thefts from vehicles occurred on Coldstream Drive, between July 13 and 14. Doors had been left unlocked on five of the vehicles; entry method unknown on the sixth.
  • A theft from a vehicle was attempted in the 11000 block of Candlelight Lane on July 14, prior to 10:00 a.m. The method of entry is unknown; nothing was taken.
  • Theft was attempted from a second vehicle in the same 11000 block of Candlelight Lane, between 4:00 to 8:00 a.m. Nothing was taken.
