POLITICAL EXTREMISM TO BE EXPLAINED BY YALE SCHOLAR

Free, open to all, program at the Bolger Center, Nov. 19, 7 p.m., presented by Potomac Community Village

Potomac Community Village presents the timely topic of a new book, โ€œAmerican Hysteria: The Untold Story of Mass Political Extremism in the United States,โ€ with its author, Andrew Burt, at a free program on November 19 at 7 pm at the Bolger Center in Potomac.

Author Andrew Burt, the Knight Law and Media Visiting Fellow at Yale Law Schoolโ€™s Information Society Project, uses historical analysis, political acumen and startling story-telling to shine a light on a deeply hidden side of American democracy. Politics and Prose Bookstore says Burtโ€™s work traces the heritage of American vigilance against the secret organizations and conspiracies that periodically threaten the nation. Archbishop Desmond Tutu has called the book a must-read, โ€œdealing with a topic few want to tackle.โ€

A widely published journalist, Mr. Burt has written for major outlets such as Slate, The Atlantic and Politico. His work has been translated for consumption around the world, including Italyโ€™s Il Sole 24 Ore and El Pais, Spainโ€™s largest newspaper. Zeroing in on the 2016 Presidential Election, a September 24th opinion piece in the Los Angeles Times is titled, โ€œThe Founding Fathers Say Ben Carson Is Wrong About A Muslim President.โ€
