Potomac Community Village Has a New Look
new logo, new "volunteer driver" sign, new Afternoon Movie series, new website look for non-profit that empowers seniors to age in place
With a new logo and a new website that just went “live”, Potomac Community Village (PCV) is off to a new start this spring, including what it expects will be the first in a series of Afternoon Movie programs in addition to its long-standing monthly evening events. The program, on Wednesday, March 23, featured a free showing of the new movie “Brooklyn” at the Potomac Community Center.
Also new, car door magnets for PCV’s volunteer drivers to use when they drive Potomac seniors who can no longer drive, new refrigerator magnets for members to have PCV’s phone number and email addresses easily at hand, and new yard signs to make sure our events can be easily found.
The new logo and the magnets were funded by VillageRides, a program developed by the Jewish Council for the Aging to increase the quantity of transportation services to meet the needs of the growing number of county seniors who want to remain in their existing homes and neighborhoods even though they can no longer drive. Working with a number of Villages in the County, VillageRides offers an easy-to-use computer or telephone interface for requesting rides and being a driver. Villages in the VillageRides program include, in addition to Potomac Community Village, Bannockburn Neighbors Assisting Neighbors, Burning Tree Village, Olney Home for Life, Silver Spring Village, Village of Takoma Park, Villages of Kensington, and Wyngate Neighbors Helping Neighbors. Funding for the VillageRides program and its grants to help Villages develop their own “rides” programs and increase the number of volunteer drivers comes from federal and county grants.
