POTOMAC, MD — "Real Housewives of Potomac" star Monique Samuels has been charged with second-degree assault after allegedly getting into a physical fight with costar Candiace Dillard Bassett.

Montgomery County court records reveal that Samuels, 36, received a summons on Thursday. The reality star is scheduled to appear in District Court on Feb. 6, 2020.

PEOPLE reports that the fight took place at a dinner party during filming. An anonymous source told the media outlet that Samuels grabbed Dillard, 32, by the hair and pulled her down.

Dillard's attorney James L. Walker, Jr. issued a statement to PEOPLE, saying: "At this time, we do not want to say too much and just allow the criminal process to play out. We only ask everyone to pray for our client Candiace and her family."

A. Scott Bolden, Samuels' attorney, has since given a statement to Page Six. He said Samuels was defending herself and that Dillard is known to display physically aggressive behavior.

"Ms. Dillard has a public reputation for aggressive, belligerent and threatening behavior that has played out repeatedly on the Housewives of Potomac for millions of viewers to see for themselves," Bolden said. "To be sure, my client did nothing but defend herself in the face of more very aggressive behavior by Ms. Dillard."

It is unclear what started the fight.

Samuels and Dillard both star in "The Real Housewives of Potomac," a popular reality TV series that follows the lives of several women living in the wealthy Montgomery County neighborhood.
