“It’s always exciting when the jackpot is rolling, but selling the very first $10 million-winning Double Play ticket takes it to a whole different level,” said Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director John Martin in a statement. “We’ve now had a Powerball jackpot prize and a Double Play top-tier prize in Maryland this year. We can’t wait to meet the $10 million winner and help them celebrate.”

Double Play is a $1 add-on to a lottery ticket that gives the buyer the chance to match its numbers twice, for both the Powerball drawing and the Double Play drawing. Double Play was just introduced in August for 13 lotteries, and it offers $10 million as the top prize. Other Double Play winners in Maryland have won prizes ranging from $7 to $500, the Lottery said.
