Judge sentences Derwood man to 120 years in prison for 2025 Rockville hotel killings (bethesdamagazine.com) — A Derwood man has been sentenced to 120 years in prison for the 2025 shooting deaths of two people at the Sleep Inn hotel on Research Court in Rockville. Prosecutors said he shot the victims during a planned cannabis deal, then abandoned their car nearby before returning to the hotel, where police arrested him with two handguns.
2. Montgomery County students question local leaders on AI, immigration, school safety and more (dcnewsnow.com) — Montgomery County students gathered in Rockville to press county councilmembers and school leaders on AI, school safety, immigration, sidewalks, and spaces for teens to gather. The town hall let MCPS students practice civic engagement while hearing how officials plan to protect immigrant communities, adapt to new technology, and keep Rockville-area schools safe and welcoming.
3. Five $50K Winning Lottery Tickets Sold at Rockville Deli (meigsindypress.com) — If you recently bought a Pick 5 ticket at Ollie's Beer, Wine & Deli in Rockville, you might be sitting on one of five unclaimed $50,000 prizes from the September 22 midday drawing. The Maryland Lottery also reports several other big, still-unclaimed wins sold in nearby Silver Spring, Germantown, and Gaithersburg.
4. Maryland Man Sentenced to Federal Prison After Threats of Torture and Murder (mocoshow.com) — A 57-year-old Rockville man has been sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison for sending violent threats to at least 25 people across several states. FBI agents arrested him at his Rockville home in 2024, and a Delaware federal judge imposed a sentence above guidelines plus three years of supervised release.
