A collaborative musical endeavor between drummer Byron McWilliams, bassist Mark Lysher and guitarist Chuck Underwood. The trio’s main goal is to create reactionary improvised music across the complete musical spectrum. Although most of the group’s repertoire is from the jazz canon it is by no means limited to that genre, borrowing from folk, rock, blues, and avant-garde. With equal parts of finesse and energy, the trio creates an irresistible musical experience.

Hey Cousin Culture Fest to Feature Entertainment, Food, Crafts, Activities and More for all ages

(Silver Spring, Md)--The fourth annual The Hey Cousin Culture Fest returns to Veteran’s Plaza in Silver Spring for a full day of music, food, celebration, and joy. Taking place on Sunday, August 16 from 1-8 pm, this free event welcomes families and individuals of all ages. Hey Cousin Culture Fest is centered around celebrating Black Joy.&nbsp;

Hey Cousin has become a local tradition where community, arts, food, education, and culture come together for an unforgettable day. The event features a variety of activities, information from local nonprofits, entertainment by local performers, and products from local small businesses.

This event was born from the idea that bringing community together is everything. We must celebrate joy, culture, and unity. We’re thrilled to once again create a space where we highlight and showcase the beauty of Black culture,” said Hey Cousin Co-Founder Janae Johnson. “At the festival, in partnership with our vendors and performers, we’ll showcase, educate, and raise awareness of the great work happening in our communities and families every day.”

Vendors will be offering a large gamut of products anywhere from attire to food, beverage, and crafts. “Supporting local talent and businesses is so important and contributes towards fulfilling our mission as an event and organization,” said Johnson.

Hank Dietle’s has been a labor of love for fans of the county’s oldest licensed bar for many years, serving up cold beer and warm memories since the 1916 store reopened as Hank Dietle’s Tavern in 1950. As development pressures were wiping out history along the pike, longtime fan Tony Huniak took over in 1990 to keep our beloved bar going. When the Quarry House burned in 2015, Tony welcomed Rockabilly Saturday Night to a new venue on the pike, carving out space for dancing in a homey social setting that proved a perfect fit for fans of live roots &amp; retro music. After Hank Dietle’s suffered a devastating fire in February 2018, fans rallied again to save the irreplaceable roadhouse. Chantal “Kiti” Gartner set up a Go Fund Me website to help the out of work employees and teamed with Mark Segraves and others to organize a benefit concert to launch a reconstruction effort. Thanks to their tireless efforts and many fans who contributed, the roof was repaired, the porch rebuilt, critical electrical work done, and interior walls rebuilt. Building on their efforts, three devotees of the historic tavern, Tommy Bowes, Sarah Bonner, and Alan Kresse, along with Gina Cocco, Lisa White, and Tom Helf, teamed up to complete work on the interior, recreate our beloved “Hank Dietle’s Cold Beer” sign, and get the institution rolling again. All are long-time supporters of Maryland’s live music and dance scene—musicians, promoters and entrepreneurs dedicated to ensuring that Hank Dietle’s rides again.
