Apartment Fire
Several units in a Bethesda apartment building were evacuated Sunday after a fire broke out on the fifth floor. Investigators later learned the fire was likely caused by a malfunction with a charging Hoverboard, an electronic scooter powered by batteries.
Montgomery County Fire said three adults and two children were displaced by the fire, which triggered the building's smoke alarm but did not activate the sprinkler system. The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage.
Some lanes of traffic near Old Georgetown Road and Avenue were closed during fire operations. The Metropolitan has reopened to other residents.
