Cheers! First MoCo Beer Week to Celebrate County Brews

MoCo Beer Week -- which is actually ten days of events -- will promote local brewers, pubs, restaurants and retailers starting April 20.

Craft beer aficionados – and Joe Sixpacks who want to try local brews – are about to kick off the first MoCo Beer Week.

The 10-day event aims to celebrate local breweries, restaurants, pubs and retailers, say organizers on the event’s Facebook page. Various businesses will offer specials during the week, which runs from April 20-30.

Special nights planned by participating businesses include:

  • Rare beer tapping, Friday, April 29, at Old Town Pour House in Gaithersburg
  • Spring feast buffet, Thursday, April 21, at Piazza Beer Garden in Bethesda for the opening of its outdoor patio
  • Springtime season celebration, Wednesday, April 27, at Gordon Biersch in Rockville, where brewer Christian Layke will host the other MoCo brewers and pouring beers from Denizen's, 7 Locks, Waredaca and Rock Bottom
  • Port City Colossal, Wednesday, April 20, at Downtown Crown Wine and Beer
  • Official Beer Garden Opening Party, Wednesday, April 27, at Denizens Brewing Co. in Silver Spring

Beer Week participants include:Downtown Crown Wine and Beer and Gilly’s Craft Beer and Fine Wine in Rockville; restaurants such as Mussel Bar & Grille in Bethesda, Dogfish Head Alehouse in Gaithersburg and Cuginis Restaurant & Bar in Poolesville. Silver Spring’s Denizens Brewing Co., Rockville’s 7 Locks Brewing and Laytonsville’s Waredaca Brewing Co. are some of the county breweries organizing and participating in events, Bethesda Magazine reports.
