Dog Saves Family from Fire, Another Pet Perishes

A Boyds family was alerted to a house fire by one of its dogs; all the family members escaped uninjured.

A dog alerted a Montgomery County family that their house was on Tuesday morning, allowing the residents to escape, but another family pet didn’t survive.

One of the family’s five dogs alerted the family about 1:45 a.m. that there was a small fire in the house. When the family opened the windows of the home on Peach Tree Road in Boyds to air out the house, it fed the fire that was inside the walls of the home, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesman Pete Piringer.

The three family members were out of the home when firefighters arrived, but one of the dogs was trapped on the second floor. Piringer said firefighters rescued the dog but were unable to revive him, reports Montgomery Community Media.

The fire caused an estimated $150,000 in damage, official said.
