Family of Six Escapes Rockville House Fire

Montgomery County Fire officials say a smoke alarm warned six residents that their house was on fire, all escaped the blaze.

ROCKVILLE, MD — Six Rockville residents escaped a house fire early Saturday morning thanks to a smoke alarm, officials said.

The fire was reported just before 4:30 a.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Carl Street in Rockville. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services says the two-story single-family home caught fire on its exterior and it extended to the home's interior.

Two additional engine companies and one truck company were called to help put out the flames.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

Damages were estimated at $10,000 to the house and $5,000 to the home's contents.

The six residents have been displaced as a result of the fire and Red Cross is assisting them.

No injuries were reported to the homeowners or fire and rescue personnel.
