Highway Worker Hit By Vehicle Identified (Update)
A State Highway Administration worker spreading salt on Damascus area roads was hit by a vehicle Tuesday evening.

DAMASCUS, MD — Authorities are trying to determine what caused a vehicle to strike a Maryland State Highway Administration worker who was critically injured Tuesday night in Damascus.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer said the accident happened near Ridge Road and Hoffman Drive.

The worker, identified as Henry Lewis Johnson, 61, of the 4900 block of Pintail Court in Frederick, was taken to an area hospital and is currently listed in critical condition.
Montgomery County Police say the work crew was unloading a disabled highway truck on the northbound shoulder of Ridge Road. Johnson walked to the southbound shoulder of Ridge Road when, for reasons that remain under investigation, he was struck by a 2013 Toyota RAV4 which was traveling southbound on Ridge Road.

The driver of the Toyota was identified as David Ray Kepley, 56, of the 11800 block of Skylark Road in Clarksburg.
Police ask anyone with information regarding this collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620. Callers may remain anonymous.
Police said alcohol was not a factor and the vehicle’s driver stayed at the scene.
In an email, SHA Spokesperson David Buck said, “our thoughts and prayers are with our worker for a speedy recovery.”
