Large Scrap Metal Fire Shutters Roadway
A large scrap metal fire in Rockville forced road closures early Tuesday. An investigation into the incident is underway.

ROCKVILLE, MD — An investigation is underway after a scrap metal fire sent thick plumes of smoke into the air Tuesday and forced the closure of East Gude Drive.
The fire was reported just before 9 a.m. at the 800 block of East Gude Drive, near Dover Road.
The incident closed traffic on the major roadway between Dover Road and Calhoun Place and Crabbs Branch Road.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

Pete Piringer, spokesperson for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, said the fire was extinguished by 9:25 p.m.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
A similar incident unfolded last month at 14900 Old Dover Road. No injuries were also reported during that fire.
