Montgomery Co. Schools Share Plan To Make Up Snow Days
Montgomery County Public Schools announced plans to make up four instructional days after a major snowstorm kept schools closed for a week.
ROCKVILLE, MD — The Montgomery County Public Schools system has announced plans to make up for missed instructional days after a major snowstorm kept students out of classrooms for a week.
In an email sent to parents Thursday, MCPS said the school system was changing two days previously earmarked as professional development days for teachers.
Students will now have to attend classes on Friday, March 20, and Thursday, June 18.

The changes mean June 18 will serve as the new official last day of school, running on an early dismissal schedule.
Prior to the snowstorm, the last day of school for MCPS was scheduled for June 17.

Also, with Eid al-Fitr expected to be observed on March 20 this year, MCPS said any students observing the religious holiday will be granted an excused absence.
"Other make-up days are being considered, but no decisions have been made," the system said in its update to parents.
MCPS said it will seek a waiver from the state for two other outstanding instructional days.
