Montgomery County Police Chief Resigns Effective Immediately

ROCKVILLE, MD — Montgomery County Police Chief Marc Yamada has resigned effective immediately from his post, it was announced Friday.

The resignation was confirmed by County Executive Marc Elrich.

"We thank him for nearly four decades of service to MCPD and our residents," Elrich said in a statement.

"This resignation is effective immediately, and I have selected Assistant Chief Darren Franke to serve as Acting Chief of Police until a permanent Chief is appointed."

No official reason for Yamada's resignation was provided.

Shiera Goff, a spokesperson for the Montgomery County Police Department, told Patch that a separate statement would be issued regarding the resignation.
