Moving part one

“Moving fast is not the same as going somewhere.” Dr. Robert Anthony  (Self-help author)

Life changes happen at the weirdest times.

A few months ago, I was  living with two other people in a three bed room  apartment in College Park. , one had gotten sick and had to get 24/7 care  and the other left the area. I was left alone to move myself and many of their stuff  to a one bedroom apartment in Rockville.

If you have not moved in a long time, moving is an experience in itself. There is changing addresses in the post office , banks, DMV, and all the magazines that come to the house. There is closing one place with cable..and starting over in another. Since I moved to a different county, they had to give me a new phone number as well as a new address

Calling moving companies  is also a fun task to do (NOT REALLY!). However, it is a job that needs to be done

Downsizing yourself is strange bedfellow to explore, if you have a minute to yourself to think during your moving time. Note,  You have collected so much stuff over a period of time (Lets say YEARS)  and now you have the task in getting rid of many of your prize possessions  you have kept over the years.
I cannot, in any good faith, state  I am a hoarder. You know those people you see on TV , that seem to be hired  from central casting. However in reviewing all my stuff I have crammed into a three bedroom apartment, I say this,  add my name to the list.

It is hard to part with old pictures, dolls , action figures. CD, books, and DVD s that you held on for some reason or another. You have to get rid of these items, but it seen like getting dis-embarrass of a favorite child or children.
After everything is finally moved in,  I realize, since  I have some materials in building  storage, so I will have to streamline more  personal property after I move. Goodwill or Purple Heart will get a large donation of stuff after everything is in one place.

Lets talk movers...those special people who make assessment of how  much it will cost to move you  over the phone. Most of the time, these sales people make judgments   without seeing your furniture and belongings at all. They send out people who assume they understand what needs to be moved

One mover sent out his people to my old apartment. So,  one of the moving  personnel , who seemed in charge, wanted me to initial a contract with pamphlets they said I seen , I never saw these and asked me to initial a spot that I refused an on site review of my belongings. Since I refused to put my BP on the dotted line , the guy seem angry  and annoyed. He had two other people that stood around waiting for him to tell them what to do.
He then asked me where my daybed was. I showed it to him the daybed in the bedroom.
The worker looked  at the opening of the bedroom. He said “How did the previous movers get the bed in?”.

I told him that the previous mover took the bed apart in my former place and moved it. Then they put it back together here.

He asked “You have tools?”

I said,'NO. I was not told you needed them”

He replied, “ Well I don’t either. You know how we can get it out?”I shrugged my shoulders. “I am going to call my boss.” he walked out of the room and I could hear him chatting on his cell phone. He came back and said “Well I gotta go, the dispatcher  should call you!” He and his team left without picking up a box.

I have moved smaller stuff like pots, pans, freezer foods, DVD, cds ,medical stuff  and clothes in my small car. I am still waiting for another mover to move my large furnishing like my daybed, large dresser, book shelves, lazy boy chair, large TV  and couch. I hope this will be soon. I cannot wait, I been sleeping on pillows on the floor..I MISS MY DAYBED!

More next week
