Pedestrian In Critical Condition After Rockville Accident: Police

A woman was severely injured when she was hit by a car while crossing a Rockville street near the Twinbrook Metro Station, authorities say.

ROCKVILLE, MD — A Prince George's County woman was severely injured when she was hit by a car while while walking in a crosswalk on a Rockville street near the Twinbrook Metro station Monday night, authorities say.

Montgomery County Police say the accident happened about 5:41 p.m. at the intersection of Chapman Avenue and Bouic Avenue. Rockville City officers, and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel also responded.

Investigators say a 2013 Toyota Corolla driven by Katharine Cowgill Minker, 57, of the 13400 block of Tangier Place in Rockville, was northbound on Chapman Avenue. A pedestrian, Esther Erestain Contreras, 63, of the 1100 block of Beatrice Court in Fort Washington, was crossing east on Chapman Avenue in a marked crosswalk at Bouic Avenue when she was struck by the Toyota.

Contreras was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, police say. Minker was not hurt in the collision.
